Landslide road to open today

Residents in the Highlands who have faced a 140-mile diversion since before Christmas after a landslide hit their road should have it open today, a council said.

More than 100 tonnes of rock came down on a section of the A890 Lochcarron-to-Kyle road on 22 December.

Motorists hoping to travel between Stromeferry – where the landslide hit – and Strathcarron face a 140-mile diversion via Inverness.

Highland Council said in a statement: “The A890 Stromeferry Bypass remains closed due to the danger of further rockfall and is not now expected to reopen until December 31.”
