Isle of Bute light aircraft crash victim named

A 63-year-old man who died in a light aircraft crash in Kingarth on Bute on Saturday, August 9, has now been named.

Thomas McGowan of Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, died after the plane he was travelling in crashed on land near to Kingarth airstrip at 3.45pm on Saturday. He was taken by air ambulance to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, but later died from his injuries on Sunday morning.

A 52-year-old man who was also on board the aircraft remains in a critical condition within Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Police Scotland is continuing to work closely with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in relation to this crash. The enquiry team is urging any witnesses, or anyone with video or mobile footage which may help with this enquiry to contact Police Scotland on 101.
