Hit-and-run widow’s tears at appeal

Myra Brown broke down in tears after reading the first few words of her statement during a press conference at the headquarters of Strathclyde Police in Glasgow.

Her husband Ian Brown, 48, died after being struck by a car in Ayrshire last July. The vehicle then drove off.

“It has been nearly five months since Ian was killed,” she said, struggling to say the last word. She then apologised and stepped away from the media spotlight. Sergeant Jackie Dunbar read the Brown family statement on behalf of Mrs Brown. It described their pain “as raw now as it was at the time of his death”.

It went on to describe the father-of-two as “a hard-working man who absolutely adored his family”.

“Christmas is going to be a very difficult time for us, we are devastated by his death and miss him dearly,” the statement continued. “We would ask anyone with information that could help this enquiry to contact police urgently.

“We need answers as to why someone would leave Ian at the roadside.”
