Glasgow Airport set for new logo and upgrade

GLASGOW airport is to to be rebranded with new logo this summer to reflect its world gateway to Scotland role.

The new image will be part of the airport’s preparations for next year’s Commonwealth Games, and follows owner BAA dropping its name and group logo from its airports.

A design agency has been asked to come up with options, which could include references to Glasgow, or Scotland more generally, since the airport boasts nearly all of the country’s long-haul routes. Its current slogan is “Discover the world”.

The airport has the disadvantage of not having such distinctive buildings as rival Edinburgh’s control tower, which is used in its logo with the slogan: “Where Scotland meets the world”.

A Glasgow airport spokesman said: “We want something iconic that captures what Glasgow airport does as the gateway to Glasgow and other parts of Scotland.”

The airport has also announced it is accelerating a planned £10 million upgrade in advance of the games to October, including expanding and refurbishing the international arrivals area, and improvements to the main check-in hall and toilets. More energy efficient LED lighting will be installed in the airport’s taxiways between the terminal and runway.
