Girl killed after being hit by train at Whitecraigs

A 13-year-old has died after being hit by a train at Whitecraigs station on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Paramedics were unable to save the girl, named locally as Heather Still, and she was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday shortly after 2pm.

An official statement from the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Whitecraigs railway station on Tuesday after a report that a girl had been struck by a train,

“Officers from Police Scotland attended and this was reported to British Transport Police at 2.15pm. Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended but the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.”

It is beleived Heather attended Mearns Castle High School with pupils from the school in tears as they visited the scene last night. An East Renfrewshire council spokeswoman said: “We are deeply saddened by the news of the sudden death of a local 13 year old. This remains a British Transport Police matter and we are unable to comment further at this time.”
