Friends pay tribute to M90 crash victim

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 19 year-old teenager who was killed in a horrific motorway crash.

Police have named the victim as Jamie Scott, from Perth, who worked as a car valeter with Alan Storrar Cars in Perth.

Two other teenagers – a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman – were seriously injured in Monday night’s crash when the car in which they were travelling careered off the M90 on the outskirts of Perth, plunged down an embankment and smashed into a tree.

The two injured teenagers were rushed by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after being cut free from the wreckage by firefighters. Both are in a serious, but stable, condition, police said.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident on the eastbound carriageway of the M90 between the Broxden roundabout and the Craigend junction.

A spokesman for the Tayside division of Police Scotland said the teenagers had been travelling in a black Ford Fiesta when the car left the carriageway and rolled down an embankment.

He said: “The car was travelling from Broxden towards Craigend, lost control and went down an embankment on its left-hand side. The car collided then with a tree.”

The spokesman continued: “The occupants of the vehicle were three teenagers – two males and one female. Emergency services attended and one of the occupants of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The other two occupants were taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where they are currently being treated for their injuries.

“We would like to appeal for witnesses who can provide information about the route or activity of a black coloured Ford Fiesta motor car prior to the collision on the M90 to contact Police Scotland.”

The accident happened at around 10:45pm on Monday, blocking the carriageway between Broxden and Craigend for more than seven hours while crash scene investigators conducted a detailed examination of the area.

Friends and former classmates of the popular teenager paid tribute to him on social networking sites.

Craig Fairlie posted: “Can’t believe the news I’ve heard about Jamie Scott. One of the very best guys you could ever meet.”

Jack McCafferty wrote on Twitter: “Horrible news. True good guy all throughout school. Such a shame on his family. RIP Jamie Scott.”

Scott Glashan added: “Rip Jamie Scott, can’t believe what’s happened! Such a good guy! Thoughts with his family.”

Charlotte Bywalec said her thoughts were with the mother of the tragic teenager.

She said: “R.I.P Jamie Scott, thoughts go out to Mrs Scott, her family and friends of Jamie. Absolute tragedy no one deserves to go through.”
