Fresh calls for A1 upgrade

NEW figures released by the Government have led to renewed calls to upgrade the A1 between Dunbar and the Borders.

Statistics show motorists are three times more likely to be involved in crashes on single lanes. In the last ten years, 130 accidents, including ten fatalities, took place on the single carriageway section compared to only 44 on dualled sections.

Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP John Lamont said: “There is not only a serious benefit to safety in dualling the A1, but also many economic benefits.”
