Forth Road Bridge climb costs revealed

TICKETS to climb to the top of the Forth Road Bridge’s towers will cost £120 for those not living in Lothian or Fife, the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (Feta) announced today.

The price was revealed as details were provided of a ballot for tickets for people living in those areas.

The bridge climbs are being staged as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations next year, which coincide with the Year of Homecoming Scotland 2014.

They will involve taking an internal lift followed by ladders to the top of the 500 ft high towers.

A total of 500 of the 2,014 available tickets will be offered to residents of the EH (Lothian) and KY (Fife) postcode areas, in the ballot. These tickets will cost £50 each.

Applications will open at 10am on Friday and close on 21 October, for a maximum of two tickets.

The climbs will take place at weekends between 19 July and 23 August next year.

Feta convener Lesley Hinds said people living either side of the bridge would get a discount because of the importance of the bridge to them.

She said: “Opportunities for the public to gain access to the spectacular views from the top of the suspension bridge are very rare indeed, and the 2014 ticket release is a highlight of the Forth Bridges Festival programme.

“The bridge plays a big part in the lives of people living either side of the Forth estuary, so we felt it was only appropriate to give those people something extra special through this ballot.”
