Passengers from Edinburgh Airport will increasingly have to look to foreign hubs for connecting flights because there will “almost certainly” be fewer to Heathrow in future, its new managing director has warned.

Jim O’Sullivan said better links must be established with hubs such as Amsterdam or Frankfurt as Heathrow switched to more long-haul flights after a third runway was cancelled. Bmi axed Glasgow-Heathrow flights in March, leaving British Airways a monopoly.
Edinburgh had another record month in September, with passenger numbers up 3 per cent on last year. Glasgow and Aberdeen were up 3.2 and 11.3 per cent respectively.
