Passengers have used social media to lambast Edinburgh Airport over lengthy queues at security screening in the past fortnight.

Airport chief operating officer David Wilson admitted that queues had been longer than normal in recent weeks, with the transport hub’s performance not up to the “standard expected”.

State-of-the-art facial recognition equipment has been installed throughout the bag check and security area in a bid to measure queue lengths and subsequently target 
bottlenecks.

However, travellers used 
Facebook and Twitter to demand urgent improvements from the airport.

One passenger, Angela Gray, posted: “Always disappointing to have to wait in queues at security when so many of the booths are closed.”

Fellow online user Graham Rooney said: “Not enough staff on to cope with the high numbers of passengers that need to get through security for early morning departures.”
