Dundee road death victim named as Sybil Butchart

A 79-year-old female pensioner who died this morning after being struck by a car on a dual carriageway in Dundee has been named as Sybil Butchart of the city’s Colonsay Terrace.

The tragedy happened on the A90 Dundee to Forfar road near a Jet service station at the height of the morning rush hour.

Ms Butchart sustained fatal injuries after being struck by a silver Chevrolet Matiz.The driver of the car – a 20-year-old man – was uninjured.

A spokesman for the Tayside Division of Police Scotland said: “Emergency services attended at a serious road traffic collision between a silver Chevrolet Matiz and a woman pedestrian on the A90 Dundee to Forfar road, near the Jet Service station, Dundee. Tragically, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene a short time later.

“Enquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are on-going and police are keen to establish the deceased’s movements prior to the incident. If you saw her or have any information that could assist officers with their enquiries please contact Tayside Division on 101.”

He added: “As with all sudden deaths a report will been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
