Delta announces Edinburgh-New York flights

DELTA will become the third airline to fly daily between Edinburgh and New York next year, competing with American Airlines and United.

The airline confirmed that their flights would compete with American’s flights to John F Kennedy and United’s flights to Newark on the New York / New Jersey border.

Launch of the flights from 26 May will come seven years after Delta scrapped the route after switching it from Edinburgh-Atlanta.

It will also be a year after American started flying the route to New York’s main airport from the Scottish capital.

United began flying to Newark, on the other side of the city, 11 years ago.

Delta will use a single-aisle Boeing 757, like its rivals.

Edinburgh Airport said the airlines offered separate networks in the United States for onward connections.

Delta’s service will be part of its partnership with Virgin Atlantic, which flies three times a week between Glasgow and Orlando in Florida.

Nat Pieper, Delta’s senior vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Our new flights from Edinburgh will offer more connections to destinations throughout the US and beyond.”
