Cyclist dies nine days after coach crash

A CYCLIST has died in hospital, nine days after being seriously injured in a collision with a coach on the outskirts of Perth.

The 51-year-old male, who has still to be named, was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee on 30 December following the accident near the junction of the A9 Perth to Inverness road and Inveralmond Place.

The cyclist, who was from the Perth area, sustained a serious head injury in the incident involving a coach travelling from Inverness to Edinburgh.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said today: “A 51-year-old male cyclist admitted to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee following a road traffic collision on the A9 on Monday, 30 December, has died of his injuries. The man, from the Perth area, sustained a serious head injury when his bicycle was in an apparent collision with a coach on the southbound carriageway of the A9 between Luncarty and Inveralmond near Perth.

“The collision occurred shortly after 5 pm and involved a blue and yellow single-deck coach on a scheduled journey between Inverness and Edinburgh. The coach stopped immediately. The driver and 19 passengers were all uninjured.”

He continued: “The cyclist was conveyed to Ninewells Hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit until his death on Wednesday afternoon. A report of the circumstances will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Officers are still trying to trace witnesses to the incident a number of whom may have stopped to assist in the immediate aftermath.
