Coastal search for missing Aberdeen man suspended

A MAJOR search for a man who fell overboard from a fishing boat off the coast of Aberdeen has been suspended.

The operation involving a helicopter, 11 vessels and two coastguard rescue teams was launched after the incident was reported at about 2am.

Ian Guy, coastguard maritime operations controller, said: “We used all the means and assets available to search an extensive area but with no sign of this missing man.

“In the absence of further information the search has been suspended. Our thoughts are with this man’s family and friends at this sad time.”

The search had focused on an area south east of Aberdeen near Girdle Ness Lighthouse.
