The driver of the third vehicle involved escaped unhurt in the crash, which happened at about 8am on the southbound Inverness to Perth road, a mile north of Dalguise.

Tayside Fire and Rescue were called after the Mercedes C180 being driven by the pregnant woman caught fire.

Police officers said the car had been “almost completely destroyed”.

The injuries suffered by the man, who was driving a white Vauxhall Combo van, are not thought to be life-threatening.

The third car involved in the collision was a red Vauxhall Astra.

Tayside Police closed the road after the crash and set up diversions while emergency services worked at the scene.

The force has appealed to witnesses of the collision to contact them.

Elsewhere on the A9, motorists were warned about black ice between Plean and Falkirk, while the A809 in Stirling and the A905 in the nearby Throsk area were described as “very icy”.
