A cargo vessel has run aground as it tried to dock.

Stornoway Coastguard was contacted by the crew of the 91-metre general cargo vessel FRI SEA just before midday today.

They reported they had gone aground during docking manoeuvres at Corpach, close to Fort William in the Highlands.

The seven crew members remain on board the ship and there have been no injuries or signs of pollution, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.

It is thought that an attempt will be made to refloat the vessel at high water tomorrow.

A MCA statement said: “The Secretary Of State’s Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention is aware and is monitoring the situation.”
