Car industry drives in right direction

Turnover from the UK’s automotive manufacturing sector rose 20 per cent last year to £49 billion, figures today reveal.

Output in 2010 was up 27.8 per cent, reaching pre-recession levels, while the number of vehicles exported was up 31 per cent, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said. Energy use per vehicle produced was down 8 per cent, while manufacturing CO2 emissions fell 10.5 per cent per vehicle.
