Bus firm set to raise fares

A BUS firm serving the Capital and the Lothians is set to increase its fares.

All single adult and child fares are rising by 10p from next Sunday on services run by First Scotland East. Return tickets will also increase by an average of 20p.

Most season fares are being reduced, while the price of all day tickets are either going down or being frozen.

The rise comes just weeks after Edinburgh’s biggest bus operator, Lothians Buses, lifted the standard flat-fare price of a journey from £1.40 to £1.50.

First Scotland East managing director Paul Thomas said: “Despite rising costs and the ongoing challenging economy, we have been able to reduce or freeze all our season tickets in this, our annual fares review.”
