Bus driver dies after Caithness road accident

• Incident on A882 road from Wick to Thurso occured shortly before 9.30pm last night

The driver, who has still to be named, was killed when his bus was involved in a collision with a car on the A882 Wick to Thurso road shortly before 9.30pm last night.

One person was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The accident happened near to Haster and diversions remain in place at the crash scene as investigations continue into the crash.

A spokesman for the local division of Police Scotland said: “Police continue to deal with their investigations into the road traffic collision that occurred on the A882 near to Haster. As a result the road will remain closed.

“Diversions are now in place via the B870 at Watten and B874 Lochshell road.”
