Boy, 17, fights for life after Paisley bridge fall

The boy fell from the bridge that serves Paisley Gilmour Street around 1.30am on Sunday morning - barely 36 hours after a woman had been killed by a train at the same station.

The 45-year-old woman is believed to have been struck near platform four after making her way onto the railway line as a train - not scheduled to stop at the station - approached at speed around 2.15pm on Friday.

Streets surrounding the station, including Moss Street, where the boy fell, and Old Sneddon Street were closed off by police.

A witness told the Paisley Daily Express: “There was somebody on the top of the bridge, then when I walked past again five minutes later there seemed to be a person on the ground.

“Police officers, paramedics and the fire brigade were there and forensics were collecting evidence. Cops closed all streets in the area near the bridge at Moss Street.”

It is thought that a passerby alerted the emergency services after seeing the boy on the bridge.

The boy was first taken to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital before being transferred to the Southern General in Glasgow.

Police are investigating and have called on anyone with any information to get in touch.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said the boy fell from the bridge while emergency services were present, and his condition was ‘critical’.
