Heavy downpours caused flooding and transport disruption across Scotland on Tuesday leaving cars and houses submerged in water.

About 65mm of rainfall is estimated to have fallen at the Rest and Be Thankful over the course of the day.

In January the road was closed for two days after being covered by 1,300 tonnes of debris.

Last night rail travellers were told to avoid services between Ayrshire and Glasgow following the flash floods.

Severe flooding from the Mill Burn, Tillicoultry in Clackmannanshire lead to properties reportedly being evacuated as a precaution.

On Wednesday ScotRail confirmed all routes are operational once again with the exception of the West Highland Line and the Stirling – Perth line which were left unusable after the deluge.
