Tracey's fund raises £21k for research

A FUND has been set up in memory of a 36-year-old woman who died of an undiagnosed heart problem.

City woman Tracey Brigain passed away in 2008 after a fatal heart attack struck.

Since then her family has been fundraising to secure money for research into early signs of the problem.

The official endowment fund at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary has already got 21,000, and will allow junior doctors to gain more experience on the issue and pay for technology upgrades.

Consultant cardiologist Dr Neal Uren said: "This technology allows us to accurately assess the patient non-invasively for the presence or absence of coronary atheroma (plaque) and allows us to make appropriate management decisions before clinical events develop.

"We are grateful to the Brigain family, both here and all their friends in Spain, for their very generous support, and for their amazing efforts they have made in raising money for Tracey's fund."
