Toyota recalls 2.17m US cars

Toyota recalled 2.17 million vehicles in the United States yesterday to deal with accelerator pedals that could become trapped in floor mats or jammed in carpeting on the driver's side.

The Japanese car maker has now recalled more than 14m vehicles globally since 2009 to fix accelerator pedals and other safety problems.
