Town's £1.2m regeneration set to begin

A £1.2 MILLION scheme to regenerate Dalkeith will get under way next week, leading to the closure of the High Street for more than four months.

Work to transform the town's High Street will include narrowing the road, which will be resurfaced, and widening pavements.

There will also be new parking bays and street lighting, as well as a new pedestrian crossing. The historic closes will also be restored.

Work will start next Thursday and the High Street will be closed for around 18 weeks, with diversions put in place.

Councillor Russell Imrie, cabinet portfolio holder for strategic services, said: "The improvements will make an enormous difference to Dalkeith. The High Street will be much more attractive for residents, shoppers, businesses and tourists."

The work forms part of a larger 3.3m investment in the town centre.
