Tourist's body is recovered after 'duck boat' tragedy

THE body of one of two missing Hungarians was recovered from the Delaware River yesterday, near where a barge collided with a stalled amphibious sightseeing boat. A second body was later spotted during salvage operations but has not yet been recovered.

A statement from Hungary's foreign ministry said US authorities had reported that they had recovered the body of a female Hungarian citizen missing since Wednesday's accident.

Dora Schwendtner, 16, was one of two passengers to go missing. The other, 20-year-old Szabolcs Prem, had still not been found yesterday.

The tourists were on a so-called "duck boat," which has wheels that allow it to travel seamlessly between land and water, that was struck and sunk by a 250-foot barge on Wednesday.

The company that owns the duck boats operation, Ride the Ducks, has suspended its operations nationwide.

The missing were among 13 Hungarian students, two Hungarian teachers, four US students and three US teachers on a tour hosted by Marshallton United Methodist Church in suburban Philadelphia.
