Top ranking for city centre beer mats

A SUPERVISED taxi rank is to be promoted in a new series of beer mats distributed across the city centre's bars.

Essential Edinburgh, the company that funds the transport marshals outside the Assembly Rooms on George Street, has produced the four different beer mats.

They are designed to promote the service, which is linked by radio and assisted by CCTV and police and runs from 10:30pm until 4am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Tom Campbell, chief executive of Essential Edinburgh, said "We wanted to make more people aware of the service we provide and the beer mats are a fun way to do this. We wanted a design that would catch people's attention and we're very pleased so many establishments are using the mats."

David Stewart, managing director of DM Stewart, owner of the Abbotsford on Rose Street and Guildford Arms on West Register Street, said: "It's important customers can visit the great bars and restaurants in the city in the knowledge they can get home safely.

"The transport marshals make a real difference and we welcome the use of beer mats to promote this excellent service."
