Top artist's paintings raise £13k at Capital Oxfam shop

AN Oxfam shop turned itself into an art gallery, raising more than £13,000 for the charity.

The Royal Mile shop hosted a display of paintings by well-known artist John Foulger, who left his house and contents to Oxfam when he died in 2006.

Most of the paintings, which numbered more than 100, have been sold since the exhibition was launched last month. There are still some available, all priced at 30 or less.

Foulger was a renowned post-impressionist landscape and seascape painter, who worked mainly in oils and acrylics. His work can be seen in galleries around the world.

He was also well known for his equestrian paintings and still lifes, a number of which were also included in his donation to Oxfam.

Neil Johnstone, manager of the Oxfam shop, said: "The exhibition has proved hugely popular. We have sold to people from places as far flung as New Zealand, America and Japan, and I think that John Foulger would be delighted that his donation has made such an impression."
