Tony Blair 'didn't deliver on Iraq'

Tony Blair repeatedly failed to deliver on his promises to provide the military with all the resources they needed for operations in Iraq, the former head of the armed forces has told the Iraq inquiry.

Admiral Lord Boyce, who was chief of the defence staff at the time of the invasion in 2003, said Mr Blair had been unable to get the then chancellor Gordon Brown to relax his spending restrictions on the armed forces.

Lord Boyce described the Treasury's attitude as an "impediment" to the Iraq mission, while the government as a whole lacked "cohesion" in dealing with the issue.
