Tom Jones support slot is great Carrie on for city singer

A YOUNG Capital singer is set to warm the stage for Welsh legend Tom Jones when he appears in Scotland on Friday.

Carrie Mac has previously supported The Proclaimers, Sandi Thom and Tommy Reilly. Fellow Scot TJ Bilham is also on the bill as a support act for the concert at Hamilton Park in South Lanarkshire.

Hamilton Park chief executive Vivien Kyles said: “The excitement has been building in the lead-up to Friday night and the announcement that Carrie Mac and TJ Bilham will support Tom Jones has only added to that. It’s great to see new, fresh talent being given an opportunity like this.

“Now everyone who has bought a ticket will enjoy even more value for money, and they might just see a star of the future – in addition to a true superstar of the present day.” Speaking to the News in August 2010, Carrie Mac, now 25, told of her road to stardom after leaving her job in a coffee shop. “The best thing ever was handing in my notice at Beanscene,” she said. “I loved the people I worked with but I started to hate the job.”

At the time she had just become a regular act at major Scottish pop events, such as the SECC’s In:Demand festival where she shared the bill with McFly, Basshunter and The Saturdays, along with Alexandra Burke and JLS.

“I thought I’d be star struck,” she said. “I was sitting having dinner when McFly walked in and my jaw dropped to the floor. Then I thought, ‘well, they’re just people’. I relaxed, I met the guys from JLS and they were all lovely to me.”
