Tollcross murder: Man, 28, in court over woman’s death

A MAN has appeared in court charged with murdering a 32-year-old woman in a flat.

Douglas Lawrence, 28, appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday charged with killing the female at a tenement in the city’s Tollcross area last Tuesday.

Lawrence - whose address wasn’t disclosed - appeared before Sheriff Michael O’Grady QC and made no plea and declaration to the charge.

The court sent Lawrence to the State Hospital at Carstairs in Lanarkshire where he will be examined by medical staff.

The female was found dead at a second floor apartment at around 6.30pm close to Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre.

Lawrence is expected to appear in court once again on the charge next week.
