Toast to grandfather ends in jail

A THUG'S "toast" to his dead grandfather landed him in jail.

Garry McFarlane avoided drinking at the funeral because he knew the combination of alcohol and his short temper would land him in trouble.

But he fell off the wagon a few days later and ended up assaulting a stranger and fighting with police, a court heard.

McFarlane, 21, was jailed for six months at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He earlier pled guilty to breaching the peace at the Designer Outlet and St John's Hospital in Livingston, West Lothian on July 22.

He also admitted assaulting Aaron Gowans at Livingston Designer Outlet.

Sheriff Ian Anderson told McFarlane: "You've been given the opportunity to deal with your problems and it hasn't worked."
