Times change as women to wind up clock

THREE women are to take over the daily winding up of a town's clock in a break with tradition.

Three female helpers have answered a call to take charge of Dingwall's landmark town clock.

The job had been done for many years by local stonemason Alex Brett, who regularly climbed the steps of the tower to keep the mechanism going.

However, he has now trained three local women who will take on the role on a rota basis and ensure time does not stand still in the Ross-shire town.

Local councillor Margaret Paton said: "I believe it is the first time that women will have done this."
