Time to take on Sherlock violin case

Alastair Savage plays a tune on a violin made out of wood from a tree that grew in Arthur Conan Doyle’s boyhood home – Liberton Bank House.

The musician is helping celebrate the first anniversary of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, in Palmerston Place, which is marking the occasion with a string quartet concert in October.

Operated by The Palmerston Trust, the centre is also home to the Edinburgh Association of Spiritualists.

The violin was fashioned from the wood of an ancient sycamore by Edinburgh instrument maker Steve Burnett in tribute to Sherlock Holmes, who would play to relax. The violin was made for the 150th anniversary of Conan Doyle’s birth.
