Time and tide wait for no 4x4

Coastguards were caught out after their vehicle became trapped in sand and then submerged on a Scottish beach.

The team were assisting police in their search for a missing person at Culbin Fans, between Nairn and Findhorn, when the 20,000 Toyota Hilux became stuck.

Crews were left to watch in horror as the tide rose and only the roof remained visible. The 4x4 was so badly damaged it had to be scrapped after the incident in December.

A Coastguard spokesman said: "Accidents happen from time to time and this was just one of these unfortunate scenarios."
