Thug suffers online abuse

A WOMAN who bashed her friend's head off of a floor has been subjected to a campaign of abuse on social networking site Facebook following the vicious assault, a court heard.

But despite the reported anger directed online at Lynne Courtney, 33, of Countess Road, Dunbar, she avoided a jail sentence after a sheriff admitted any prison term imposed on the first offender would likely be overturned on appeal.

Courtney, who had earlier admitted assault to severe injury, was given one year's probation and ordered to complete 150 hours of community service at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
