Thug admits ATM robbery

A KNIFE-WIELDING thug who threatened a man using a cash machine stole £50 from his victim, a court has heard.

Angus McPherson, 33, walked up behind Harry Smith as he was using the ATM at the Bank of Scotland branch in South Clerk Street on December 15 2011. The city’s sheriff court heard how McPherson threatened Mr Smith and forced him to withdraw £50 from the machine.

McPherson then ran off but was caught after horrified bank staff, who witnessed the robbery, contacted police.

McPherson pleaded guilty to a charge of assault and robbery yesterday.

Sentence was deferred until next month.
