Three women charged after car crashes in field

POLICE have charged three women under the Road Traffic Act following a crash in the city last night.

A Fiat Punto came off Gilmerton Station Road at around 11:30pm, before coming to a stop 30 metres into a field.

Five people – three women and two men – were taken to hospital following a rescue operation which involved cutting free one man who was trapped in the car.

The three women were found by emergency workers having been thrown from the vehicle.

A 26-year-old woman has been charged with a number of driving offences, while two other women aged 27 and 25 have also been charged.

All three are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
