Three who died in Ayrshire car crash are named by police

THREE people, including two teenagers, who died in a head-on road crash were today named by police.

Frank Muir, who is 80 and from Linwood, Renfrewshire, and Holly Fulton and Jayde McVicar, both 19 and from Greenock, died after Mr Muir apparently drove the wrong way up a road near a seaside town.

An 18-year-old woman who was in the same car as the teenagers was also seriously injured.

The accident happened on the A78 northbound carriageway close to the Meadowhead Roundabout near Troon, Ayrshire, at around 10.50pm yesterday.

Strathclyde Police said it appeared that Mr Muir, who was driving a Skoda Octavia along Gailles Road towards the Meadowhead roundabout, had entered the northbound carriageway of the A78.

His vehicle was in a head-on collision with a Ford Fiesta heading north on the road.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he died. Ms Fulton and Ms McVicar, who were in the Fiesta, also died.

The other woman was taken to hospital, where her condition is described as serious but stable.

Police have launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
