THree-week-old baby killed in car crash named

A THREE-week-old boy who was killed in a car crash has been named by police.

Oliver Hewson, from Carrutherstown, died in hospital following a three-car collision on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road at Hardgrove crossroads, between Dumfries and Annan, at rush-hour on Wednesday.

Police said two other people were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary following the crash at 5pm and were released after treatment.

The cars involved were a silver Ford Focus, a black Honda Civic and a blue Renault Clio.

Labour MSP for Dumfriesshire Elaine Murray said she will be asking the transport minister to provide funds for an upgrade of the A75 to make it safer.

The cause of the crash is not yet known but Ms Murray said the road has been “a well-known accident blackspot” during her 13 years as MSP for the area.
