Three saved in house fire

FIREFIGHTERS guided two pensioners and a teenage boy to safety yesterday following a fire in a Prestonpans home.

The blaze was sparked by a microwave in the kitchen of the two-storey terrace house at Redburn Road, East Lothian, and all three casualties - a 62-year-old woman, an 87-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy - were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Crews from Musselburgh, Tranent and Newcraighall helped extinguish the fire, which ignited at 3.40pm.
