Three saved from house fire

THREE people including an 87-year-old woman were rescued from a house fire last night.

Fire-fighters were called to the blaze on Lingerwood Road, Newtongrange at about 9.45pm after a pan of food caught fire.

The casualties, which included two men, 65, and 26, were given oxygen at the scene but did not need further treatment.

Crews from Dalkeith, Newcraighall and Liberton used hose reels to extinguish the fire which damaged the kitchen and spread smoke throughout the property.
