Three men in court over attempted murder of two police officers

A male and female officer were seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run as they responded to a call in Banner Drive in the Knightswood area of Glasgow on Sunday October 23.

David McLean, 30, Dayne McCue, 28, and Ryan Gilmour, 24, were charged with attempted murder when they appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

They were also charged with assault to severe injury and danger of life, breach of the peace, wilful fire-raising and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The trio also face a charge of breaching the peace on the same day, by arming themselves with weapons and pursuing three men at Banner Drive and trying to force entry to a property on the street.

McLean, from Cowcaddens, McCue and Gilmour from Knightswood, all appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

They each made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody by sheriff Bill Totten.

Papers from the court allege that the three men assaulted Deborah Lawson and Robert Fitzsimmons, and “did reverse motor vehicle KN65 VHA whilst both constables were trapped and did drag them backwards and knock them to the ground”.

The charge further alleges they did “drive towards PC Lawson when she was lying on the ground in front of said vehicle unable to move causing PC Fitzsimmons to drag her out of the way to avoid being further struck, to their severe injury, the danger of life and did attempt to murder them”.

All three also face charges of wilfully setting a Nissan Quashqai with false plates on fire and it’s claimed this was an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

The breach of the peace charge claims that the men armed themselves with knives and weapons, shouted and swore and pursued three men.

And, that they repeatedly banged on the door of a flat at Banner Drive and tried to force entry and did “squirt shower gel through the letter box”

They will appear again next week for a full committal hearing.
