Three dead in horror crash

THREE people have died after a horror head-on smash in East Lothian. Two teenagers and a 54-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Macmerry. It was reported that the woman's husband witnessed the crash, as he was in a separate car after they had collected the woman's car from a garage last night.

The woman was driving a Nissan Micra while the two 17-year-old males were in a Renault Clio, police said this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene last night at around 9pm on the A199 Tranent to Haddington Road near to the Macmerry Industrial Estate.

Fire crews used cutting equipment to remove the bodies, while three ambulances and a special unit from the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with A&E doctors were also at the location.

The woman's husband was taken by police to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to be treated for shock.

Police are appealing for witnesses, in particular anyone who may have seen the vehicles at or prior to the incident. The names of the deceased have not yet been released.

• Teenage car crash victim Emily Chan has died following the accident in which her boyfriend, Jack Chan, also lost his life.

Mr Chan is thought to have lost control of his car in heavy rain and hit a tree as he drove in Frogston Road West on Tuesday evening.

He died in the early hours of the following morning, and Ms Chan remained critically ill at the Western General Hospital until her death yesterday. They were both 18.
