Three children die in house blaze

Three children died and their mother was critically injured when a fire swept through their home on Thursday night.

Devastated neighbours in Bridlington described their desperate attempts to save the children, named as Maddie Hudson, three, Anthony Hudson, five and nine-year-old William Beale.

They said the unconscious youngsters were taken out of the house "like rag dolls" by firefighters and told how paramedics and a local nurse fought for an hour to save them on the road outside.

Fire crews and police were called to the cul-de-sac, which is just a short walk from the beach, at 11:58pm on Thursday.

The children's mother, named by police as 27-year-old Samantha Hudson, was also taken from the house.

She is in a critical condition in hospital in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
