Third teacher is struck off

A SECONDARY school teacher has become only the third in Scotland to be struck off for incompetence, in a ruling yesterday.

Gillian MacNaughton admitted a series of charges, including failing to carry out national assessments and record pupils' progress.

A panel of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) found her incompetence caused "actual harm" to the education of pupils.Ms MacNaughton, who taught English at Bell Baxter High School in Cupar, Fife, did not attend the Edinburgh hearing.
