Third man arrested over murder of honeymooner

A THIRD man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a newlywed during her honeymoon in South Africa with her British husband.

Anni Dewani, 28, and her husband Shrien, 31, from Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, were carjacked by armed robbers in a township on Cape Town's outskirts on 13 November.

The gunmen forced the couple's driver and Dewani out of the vehicle before driving off.

Swedish-born Dewani's body was found the next day.

Police said she had been shot in the back of the neck and had not been sexually assaulted.

Her body has now been released to her family. A fundraising page set up in her memory on the Just Giving website has raised more than 3,500 for a school in India.

A 31-year-old man, who has not been named, will appear in court tomorrow accused of murder and hijacking, South African police said yesterday.

The couple had been married for two weeks.
