Thieves jump lorry at lights in Bonnyrigg

THIEVES made off with £2500 worth of cigarettes after jumping onto the back of a lorry at traffic lights while the driver was making a delivery run.

The lorry had been making a delivery to the Co-op store in the High Street in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, at around 1.10pm on Sunday.

Police said they were investigating whether the thieves got into the trailer when it stopped at traffic lights in Lothian Street before jumping out on the lorry’s arrival at the car park.

Officers are keen to trace a man seen at the rear of the turquoise-coloured lorry on its arrival. He is described as white, with mousy brown hair, of medium build, and wearing a high-visibility vest with a long-sleeved blue jumper underneath, and black trousers.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who saw a silver 4x4 vehicle that may have followed the lorry through Bonnyrigg.
