Thieves haul out cable worth thousands

THIEVES who stole more than 700 metres of copper cable by hauling it out of the ground with a lorry are being hunted by police.

The communications cable, belonging to BT, had been recently installed and had yet to be connected. Police say it was worth "tens of thousands of pounds".

The site, just north of Blackdub Farm on the A84 Stirling to Blairdrummond road, was targeted between Friday 13 August and Monday. A police spokeswoman said: "It is believed a vehicle may have been used to pull and remove the cabling from the ground, as it would not be possible to pull out that length by hand.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have see suspicious activity in the area around the time, who may have seen people who appeared to be workmen on the site, or who may have been offered cabling for sale."
