Thieves cause a power cut

POLICE are searching for thieves who broke into an electricity sub-station in a bid to steal copper piping and caused a power cut in a Lothian town.

The culprits forced entry to the sub-station at Thornybank Industrial Estate in Dalkeith, Midlothian last Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said: "The break-in resulted in an electrical surge to the network and the power to be cut off for a period of time in the Dalkeith area, as well as approximately 1,500 worth of damage to the premises."

The spokeswoman added: "The sub-station was made safe again by ScottishPower."
