Thief foiled in bid to rob woman

POLICE are hunting a thief who attempted to steal cash from a woman in a common stairwell.

The 39-year-old woman ran into the man at around 4.55pm yesterday, when he demanded money before grabbing her.

He was disturbed when somebody else appeared in the stair and ran off down Salmond Place toward Rossie Place.

The man is described as white, in his early 30s, slight build with greasy blond hair. He had an acne-scarred face, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a dark hooded top at the time.

A police spokesperson said: "Fortunately the woman was not seriously injured, but this experience has left her understandably shaken.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who saw what happened, to contact police. We would also be keen to hear from anyone who might recognise the description of the suspect."
